BAYS WIN!!! BAYS WIN!!! BAYS WIN!!!! (Doesn’t that have a nice ring to it?)
I’m happy to report that Sister Bay beat Egg Harbor in a one game playoff to win the Door County League’s regular season championship!!! The Bays scored three runs in the fourth inning and beat Egg Harbor, 6-0. Winning pitcher Ryan Demmin was totally awesome and tossed a one-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts!!! To top that off he drove in a pair of runs. Sam Forkert also had three hits and drove in three runs, and Dusty Johnson and James Larsen each had two hits. Way to go guys!!!! Now we’re on to the play-offs. . . Tomorrow at 1:30 P.M. the Bays will play Maplewood at home, and I’d like to encourage everybody to come out to the Sports Complex. The more the merrier and the louder we’ll be, which certainly should help. I know I sound like a broken record, but “Bay Days” are simply the best. . .
If you’ve never seen or admired the art of rosemaling, now is the time get over to The Corner of the Past and introduce yourself to Loretta Paulman. Rosemaling is an art that dates back to the 1700’s in southern Norway. The intricate and stylized flowers among the sweeping scroll lines form beautiful pieces especially nostalgic to Sister Bay’s many Scandinavian residents. The Corner of the Past’s Farmer’s Market vendors also have an abundance of fresh produce for you to enjoy, and now is the perfect time for you to stock your shelves with freshly canned pickles, sauces, jams, jellies and the like. If you have any shut-in friends, now would be a great time to bring them some homegrown treats to enjoy.
One of Olga’s favorite movies, The “Bridges of Madison County” will be shown at dusk at the Sister Bay stage this evening. Does it get any better than watching a really great movie under the stars in a beautiful waterfront setting? Thanks to the movie sponsor, The Door County Advocate.
Congratulations to my friends, Eric Smith and Patrice Champeau, who won a whole bunch of awards at the Door County Fair!!! Patrice got blue ribbons for six of her watercolors, mixed media paintings and drawings, and Eric was awarded a coveted green “Champion” ribbon for his watercolor – “Emerald Byway”. He also got blue ribbons for nine of his other paintings. Hey Patrice and Eric, if you ever run out of room to display any of your paintings or drawings, Olga says she’ll gladly take them off your hands. . .
One of my favorite Librarians, Dixie, asked me to pass the word along that the Mac Users Group will not be meeting at the Sister Bay-Liberty Grove Library on September 9th. There will be a combined meeting of Mac users and I-Pad users on Friday, September 16th from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. Did you know that kids can read to my buddies Amos and/or Junior on Thursday mornings at 10:30 A.M. at the Library? The Geneology group also meets there on Tuesdays from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.
Mark your calendars for Marina Fest, 2016, which will be conducted throughout Waterfront Park on Saturday, September 3rd and Sunday, September 4th!!! This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever, and you won’t want to miss a minute of it. In addition to all the regular festival activities and food offerings there will be a pancake breakfast, kid’s boat building, kid’s carnival/bouncy houses, a petting zoo, Camel rides, a wooden boat show, performances by “Replica”, “Andy’s Automatics”, “Hillbilly Casino”, and some other very talented folks, a “Waterboard Warriors” show, and a fantastic fireworks display. Please note that there will be a slight activity schedule change this year as the fireworks show will take place on Saturday night and the “Waterboard Warriors” show will take place on Sunday afternoon. If, Heaven forbid, we get crummy weather on Saturday, the fireworks show will take place on Sunday night. The Annual Marina Fest Used Book Sale will also be conducted on Saturday, September 3rd at the Village Hall. If any of you would like to volunteer to help out at the book sale please call 920-854-2721 or stop in at the Library to sign up for a shift.

Well, I guess that’s all for this week. If you know of any special events which will be occurring in the Village, or would like to have me publicize birthdays or anniversaries of folks who live or work here, please provide that information to my friends in the Village Office at least one week in advance of the special day(s).
GO PACK GO!!!!
