I hope you and yours had a wonderful Christmas. I surely did. Olga and I spent quality time with family and friends, we ate way too much, sang lots of Christmas carols, and got some really cool gifts. Just so you know, I love homemade Christmas cookies with lots of frosting and sprinkles and will gladly take any leftovers off your hands. . .
Do you like fireworks displays and are you looking for a unique way to spend New Year’s Eve? I’ve got a great idea. . . At 8:00 P.M. on that day come to the Sister Bay Ice Rink for “SISTER BAY’S POPPIN’ NEW YEAR’S EVE”. I realize that the weather has been kind of “iffy” with respect to ice making, but I’ve heard from a very good source that there will be fireworks “no matter what”. If it’s too warm to go ice skating I’d certainly be game for an impromptu softball game before or after the show. . . Besides, what better way is there to bring in the new year that to sit around a blazing campfire under a starlit sky with family and friends, eat S’mores, drink hot chocolate and watch a totally awesome fireworks show? There are lots of great dining establishments and taverns right here in Sister Bay, and bands will be performing at some of them, so a bunch of us have made plans to go “bar hopping” after the show. Come on along – “the more the merrier”. . . I guarantee you’ll have a good time. If Olga and I are involved that’s kind of a given. . .
Speaking of the ice rink, my buddy, Joe Baldarotta, the Ice Rink Manager, asked me to pass the word along that the ice rink will be open whenever Mother Nature decides to cooperate. To check on the status of ice making please call 920-854-7014.
The Village is once again recycling Christmas lights. A collection barrel has been placed by the commercial kiosk at the Marina, and lights can be deposited in that barrel at any time. You do not have to be a Village resident to recycle lights, and no fees will be charged. Last year there weren’t very many people who took advantage of the live tree pick-up services which were offered by the Village, so the Parks Department guys will be doing something a little different this year. If you are a Village resident and would like to have your Christmas tree picked up on either Monday, January 4th or Monday, January 11th, call the Village office to get on the pick-up list, (920-854-4118), by the Friday before either of those dates. Sorry – Even though the procedure has changed a bit, the guys still won’t take the ornaments off any trees, take them out of stands, or haul them out to the curb for you. . .
The Door County Visitor Bureau has invited all Door County residents and visitors to drop off new or gently used coats, sweaters, hats, mittens and other warm clothing as part of “The Big Bundle Up” campaign. “The Big Bundle Up” is a statewide collection program that runs through January 3rd. All locally donated items will be distributed back to Door County residents in need. There are a number of drop-off sites throughout the County.
Mark your calendars for the Door County Short Film Fest, which will be conducted in the Village Hall on February 12th and 13th. Sponsors are needed, and if you’re interested please contact Paige at email@example.com.
Raoul asked me to pass the word along that everybody is invited to the “Right Off The Wall” Art Show which will still be going on at the Meadows Art Gallery for a few days. The artwork which is on display is fantastic!!!!!
“Welcome” to the Village’s new Finance Director, Tasha Tass. She’s really nice and is good with numbers. . . That’s a definite “plus” if you’re a Finance Director. . . Besides that, she likes goats. I’m impressed. . . If you get a chance, stop by the Village Office to meet Tasha. . .
Well, I guess that’s all for this week. If you know of any special events which will be occurring in the Village, or would like to have me publicize birthdays or anniversaries of folks who live or work here, please provide that information to my friends in the Village Office at least one week in advance of the special day(s).
Olga and I would like to wish all of you’re a very happy and healthy new year!!!
GO PACK GO!!!!
