You’ve simply gotta come to Sister Bay. . .
WE NOW HAVE TWO-WAY TRAFFIC DOWNTOWN, AND THE HOLIDAY DECORATIONS AND LIGHTS ARE ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!!
Great big “THANK YOU’S” are extended to Gloria Miessner, who once again donated the Village Christmas tree, and all the guys who work in the Parks Department. The guys spent lots of time constructing and putting all the decorations and lights up, and I, for one, truly appreciate all their efforts. If the kids would like to send a letter to Santa, there’s a special mailbox situated on “Candy Cane Lane”, which is on the corner of Mill Road and N. Bay Shore Drive. Santa’s elves will try to respond to each and every letter which contains a return address.
“Capture The Spirit” was fantastic. The weather was beautiful, I had a very nice visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, and Olga and I “pigged out” on hot chocolate and candy canes. I still have a bit of a belly ache, but that’s o.k. Thanks to the folks at the Sister Bay-Liberty Grove Library for hosting story time with Santa as well as the Christmas art project. Thanks also to the guys at the Fire Station for hosting cookie decorating and letting me and the “kids” tour the fire station. A little bird asked me to remind everybody to “Shop Local”. There will be tons of holiday sales and activities going on throughout the Village for the entire month of December. Check out the Sister Bay-Door County Facebook page for further details.
Speaking of the Library, it’s going to be a very busy place for a while. . . “Let’s Work Together” is the theme of today’s story time which starts at 11:00 A.M. Afterward there will be an opportunity for the kids to work on a really cool Christmas craft project. At 2:30 P.M. on Tuesday, December 8th there will be a discussion regarding Sonia Sotomayor’s book, “My Beloved World”, and then on Saturday, December 12th from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. “Famous Amos” the therapy dog, who loves to be read to, will be paying a visit. Do you want to learn to use an iPad or iPhone, or have questions about some of those devices’ features? Well, you’re in luck. . . The iPad and iPhone User Group will be meeting at the Library from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. on Friday, December 18th and everybody is welcome. I will definitely be there. I got a new smart phone for a penny on Black Friday and must admit that I’m a bit “technologically challenged”.
The Door County Visitor Bureau has invited all Door County residents and visitors to drop off new or gently used coats, sweaters, hats, mittens and other warm clothing as part of “The Big Bundle Up” campaign. “The Big Bundle Up” is a statewide collection program. All locally donated items will be distributed back to Door County residents in need. The Sister Bay drop off site is located at 10668 N. Bay Shore Drive, (the SBAA Office), and items may be dropped off from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Monday through Friday.
I visited the Northern Door Branch of North Shore Bank the other day and heard some news which confirmed what I already know – The folks who work up there are totally awesome!!! Congratulations to Becky Redling who received North Shore Bank’s North District Teller Supervisor of the Year award, Jill Hockers and Barb Grutzmacher who received North Shore Bank’s North District Tellers of the Year awards, the entire staff, which received North Shore Bank’s North District Branch of the Year award, and Dede Mickelson, who received North Shore Bank’s North District Branch Manager of the Year award!!!
Are you looking for some really cool gifts for friends and family members? Problem solved. . . The SBAA is selling sweatshirts and retro Fall Fest shirts, sizes XS to XXXL, as well as baseball caps and winter hats which bear the Sister Bay logo. They’re available right now at the SBAA Office. My friend, Paige, asked me to remind all business owners that SBAA membership renewal forms are now due. Just so you know, the SBAA office will be closed from December 20th through January 3rd.
The Sister Bay Ice Rink and Sports Complex is gearing up for an active winter season of outdoor fun. Joe Baldarotta, the Ice Rink Manager, guaranteed that if the weather cooperates work will commence on flooding the rink as soon as possible. To check on the status of ice making call 920-854-7014.
Get ready for a really cool event which will be taking place at the Ice Rink on New Year’s Eve. It’s “Sister Bay’s Poppin’ New Year’s Eve” fireworks extravaganza!!!! This family oriented event, which will start at 8:00 P.M., should be great fun for the youngsters as well as “the young at heart”. What better way is there to bring in the new year than to watch fireworks and party in Sister Bay!!!!
Mark your calendars for the Door County Short Film Fest, which will be conducted in the Village Hall on February 12th and 13th. I’ll provide more information as soon as it becomes available.
The Library Commission will be meeting at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, and the Marina Committee will be meeting on that same day at 4:00 P.M. The Library Commission meets at the Sister Bay-Liberty Grove Library and the Marina Committee Meeting will be conducted at the Fire Station on Mill Road. If you want to receive copies of Agendas for upcoming Village meetings please provide your name and e-mail address to the folks in the Village Office. Agendas and packet materials can also be accessed on the Village’s website.
Well, I guess that’s all for this week. If you know of any special events which will be occurring in the Village, or would like to have me publicize birthdays or anniversaries of folks who live or work here, please provide that information to my friends in the Village Office at least one week in advance of the special day(s).
I’m proudly flying the #4 flag I got at the Thanksgiving Day Packer Game. Thanks for the memories Brett – Olga and I still miss you a lot. . . GO PACK GO!!!!
