Treatment Facility Overflow in Sister Bay
The Sister Bay treatment facility experienced an overflow that began Wednesday January 15, 2025, at 12:22 p.m. at the Village of Sister Bay Wastewater Treatment Plant, 2124 Autumn Court in the Village of Sister Bay.
A private septage hauler was discharging holding tank waste into the pretreatment septage receiving area; the hauler put the discharge hose into the receiving hole and when the trucks valve was opened the hose came out of the receiving hole and discharged an estimated amount of 30-40 gallons of holding tank waste onto the pavement. The Utilities Operators were not notified by the hauler and discovered the waste on the pavement at approximately 1:10 P.M. Operators started spill remediation by applying lime to the affected area.
The overflow was contained to the treatment facility grounds and is not a risk to the public. The Village of Sister Bay will continue to thoroughly maintain its operations. Haulers have been reminded by the Utilities Director to attend to any active discharge of waste at the treatment facility and stress the importance of making sure that the discharge hose is oriented correctly in the receiving hole.
