Sister Bay Seeks Artists

Do you ever wonder how municipalities afford to improve their parks and facilities?  For many, its through community donations.  Sister Bay has a donor policy and receives money for benches, trees, playground equipment and other amenities.  In an effort to acknowledge those who donate to the village, Sister Bay plans on erecting a feature to recognize those that have contributed to the park system.

Last month the Parks, Property & Streets Committee discussed how to honor someone who donated funds to their playground equipment.  The discussion soon elevated to a need to go beyond traditional signage and at the March meeting they agreed to solicit artists to design an outside donor wall, plaque or other artistic feature to honor the generous people that have helped improve Waterfront Park. The committee is offering $500 to the winning design.  Interested artists are to contact Julie Schmelzer, the Village Administrator.  The deadline to submit a design is June 1st.

The committee also discussed the design of their new parks maintenance facility and surrounding land off Autumn Court, which included a discussion about the dog park.  The dog park received a generous donation which can aid in implementing a new dog park design. The village also received a small grant last month to upgrade the dog waste receptacle at the park. Anyone interested in donating to the dog park or Waterfront Park is to contact the Village Clerk, Heidi Teich.
